How does long distance work within the unlimited coverage area?
- There is no charge for incoming calls
- Public Mobile's unlimited plans include province wide calling. This
allows you to make calls from within the Public Mobile unlimited
coverage area to anywhere within the province without incurring any
extra charges.
- When calling outside of your province you will need a long distance
plan. Currently Public Mobile offers long distance plans that provide
calling to the following areas:
- Unlimited Canadian long distance
- Unlimited US long distance
- US & Overseas long distance (45 countries)
- Public Mobile also sells pre paid long distance cards as another option for making long distance calls.
How does long distance work when roaming?
- When you are outside Public Mobile's unlimited coverage area and are
roaming, you can call anywhere in Canada and the US for $0.20/min.
- While roaming, the charge for incoming calls is always $0.20/min.
Public Mobile supports 10 digit dialing within Canada.
Just dial the long distance phone number plus the area code and you will be connected.
You can also dial '1' before the area code and phone number,
however this is not mandatory for calls within Canada.
Overseas Long Distance
How can I make Overseas long distance calls?
Public Mobile offers a few ways to make overseas long distance calls.
- If the country or countries you wish to call are included as part of
our unlimited overseas long distance feature, you can add the feature
to your account.
- If the country or countries you wish to call are included as part of
our per use overseas long distance option, top up your wallet and start
making calls.
- If the country or countries you wish to call are not included in our
unlimited feature or per use option, you can purchase a calling card
from one of our stores. The calling card will be charged depending on
the rate set by the calling card company. To make an overseas call,
follow the instructions provided by the pre paid calling card company.
How do I dial an overseas long distance number?
Dialing overseas is simple - you'll need to dial as follows:
- Exit code + Country Code + Area Code + Phone Number
- Exit Codes - the exit code for most countries is 011, except in the
cases of Guam, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands where the exit code
is 1.
- Country Codes - Country codes are one, two or three digit numbers.
You can use our overseas long distance tool to help you find the country
code if you are calling a country that is included in our unlmited
overseas long distance feature. Click on the features page, then select
the long distance tab. Click on 'Check Availability' under the Overseas
long distance feature and select the country you want to call.
- Area Code + Phone Number - these can vary a little bit in the number
of digits, but they work the same way area codes and phone numbers do
in Canada Once you have dialed the number, just press the green handset
button and your call should go through.
